Permanent Makeup ~ Eyebrows with Sovay, Aesthetic Boutique at Salon Sovay

Studies have shown that self confidence increases when a person’s appearance and body image is improved. This can be achieved with corrective tattooing / permanent makeup.

Eyebrows, in particular,  "frame" the eyes and are a reference point that determines how facial features are perceived. The appropriate eyebrow shape and size can appear to lift a person’s eyes creating a more youthful appearance. Properly designed eyebrows can balance the distance between eyes or modify the look of prominent or deeply set eyes. A good eyebrow design can also make cheekbones appear more defined and influence the perception of the person’s nose size.

Permanent eyebrows help women and men whose eyebrow hair is lightly colored, thin in places, sparse overall, or nonexistent. Eyebrow hair loss can result from years of tweezing or waxing, medical conditions (e.g. scars or Alopecia), or medications (e.g. Chemotherapy). An Eyebrow tattoo eliminates the daily use of pencils or powders to fill-in, reshape, or recolor brows. Eyebrow shape, thickness, color, density, height, balance, and symmetry can be corrected once and for all with eyebrow tattooing to improve the attractiveness of a person’s face.

Here is a picture of a slight modification, before and after, of a client's eyebrows.  The client wanted to stay extremely natural looking but have an "enhanced" eyebrow appearance.

Lovely Eyelash Tint and Eyebrow Tint for a Blonde

Oh my Blondes and Gingers...there is nothing more exciting than adding pigment to their lashes and brows.  My client pictured here is a Blonde.  She did have some natural pigment to her lashes on the top row but almost no pigment on the bottom row so I decided to do a 2 step process.  First, I turned them red...yes, that's right...red.  Second, I turned them blue/black.  When you see lashes that are almost "see-through" I refer to this as "no pigment"...when this happens you have to repigment the hair and step it down to a darker color.  She mentioned that many lash technicians had tinted her lashes in the past and they faded within a day or two so I didn't want to take any chances.  We got a fabulous result.  It takes about 15 to 20 minutes extra to do a 2 step process but oh so worth it for my light Blondes and Gingers :)

Now, for the brow tint.  She has never let anyone touch her blonde brows before.  I begged and begged and told her I would not charge as long as she would let me at them.  I went super light and natural because I promised her she would look more glamorous and beautiful after I was done...no problem.  I went with a 8N/8V with 5 Volume for about 10 minutes...natural and awesome!

Mullet inspired long layered haircut with stylist, Sovay, at Salon Sovay

This 5'10 Nordic goddess is optimizing her hair potential now!  She brought pictures of mullet inspired '80's long layered haircuts that scared the living daylights out of me...seriously.  Man, I'm not a big fan of mullets.  For one, I can't stand to aggressively cut the front quadrants of the hair on the head (that would be the area 1 to 2 inches from the front hairline).  This hair area never seems to grow as fast as the back 2 quadrants of the head and it's not as thick.  Mullet inspired layered cuts whack the heck out of the front 2 quadrants...scary.  We went on and on during her initial hair consultation about pros and cons regarding the looks she was desiring.  She successfully convinced me to give her a millennium version of the long layered mullet inspired cut.  During her persuasive endorsement of this haircut, she really liked how it complimented her strong cheekbones and accentuated her eyes.  Well, in the end, she was spot on and my hesitations were incorrect.  As for color, she just told me to make it really blonde...that was it...she gave me much more artistic flexibility in that department.  I did a partial highlight with extremely fine weaves and slices.  I made the slices and weaves fine to soften her line of demarcation as it grows out...she's a college student and does not have time to get another color for quite some time.  After that, I went back and blonde tipped her bangs on the ends only (about 1 inch to the ends).  I wanted to see extreme blonde right next to her eyes to brighten them.  She's all natural...no makeup in both photos and I think this effectively demonstrates the power of color and cut on the face.  We had fun!

Permanent Makeup/Cosmetics and Eyelash Perm and Tint

Before Photo

After Photo

Before Photo:
So this is a client of mine who gets her eyelashes permed and tinted by me. After I received my license to perform permanent makeup/cosmetics, she was eager to improve and strengthen her eyebrow arch and also wanted to try upper and lower eyeliner. Now, this is not a becoming "before" shot...I had a numbing gel on her eyebrows and then remembered I needed to take a photo prior to starting my work so I could document the results. So please ignore the numbing gel evidenced on her brows. Opportunities regarding the eyebrows: I wanted to strengthen the arch and add some color mid brow to end of brow. Opportunities regarding her eyes: she does not wear any eyeliner due to sensitivity and skin allergy conditions so eye makeup really was not an option. I wanted to add some nice charcoal colored eyeliner top and bottom to enhance her pretty brown eyes. Opportunities regarding her eyelashes: She has wonderful coarse and long lashes but they turn down and are stick straight. They also turn in towards the nose, they do not naturally flare out. So when I permed her lashes, I pattern the lashes to flare out and perm them in this place. So...we had a lot of fun opportunities hoping to create a more vibrant, awake, and beautiful look!

After Photo:
Here is her "after" picture we took today on Saturday, April 13th. We're both pretty excited about it. The neatest thing is that this is maintenance free and she is not wearing any mascara, eyeliner, and eyebrow pencil. What a relief considering summer is right around the corner and who can wear makeup in the heat and still look glamorous? My client enjoys time outside gardening and can now look glamorous while tending to her plants...she deserves to look only the best on any occasion!  ~ Sovay Reeder, Aesthetician, Salon Sovay

I love creating subtle, natural beauty enhancements with lash perms and tints. These services really open up the eyes and makes them pop. They are great for those who lack pigment, curl, and definition in their eyelashes. Adding color and curl can change the whole appearance of the eyes, thus creating a whole new look for the face.~Sovay Reeder, Aesthetician & Stylist, Salon Sovay

Ombre and Long Layers with Stylist, Sovay, at Salon Sovay

This is a photo of a client I had last night.  I love her hair.  We do a soft Ombre color on her which involves lifting her base a bit to a medium brown (she has very dark brown hair naturally and a couple of feisty greys), adding some golden highlights and some very blonde highlights to the ends of her hair.  This results in a very subtle Ombre.  Ombre's can range from a very stark and distinct line of demarcation to a very gradual lightening and transitioning of hair color going from a darker color at the new growth to a much lighter color at the ends/tips of hair.  Whether or not to get a stark/distinct Ombre OR a more natural Ombre is up to the client.  In addition to her color, we do a long layer cut.  She has very thick hair so we make sure her layers are connected and thinned a bit to avoid the "choppy" layer look.  ~ Sovay Reeder, Stylist, Salon Sovay

The Art of Permanent Cosmetics and Permanent Makeup with Licensed Aesthetician, Sovay Reeder ~ The Aesthetic Boutique at Salon Sovay

Permanent makeup should enhance your natural features, without giving a “made-up” look.Topical makeup trends change from season to season. However, having thick lashes and defined brows and lips will never go out of style. Therefore, permanent makeup is not meant to replace topical makeup. It gives you the advantage of looking natural, only better, even when not wearing conventional makeup.

The client above wanted some natural enhancements to her lips.  We observed some asymmetry to the top lip in the "bow" section, specifically, the right side of the bow was lower than the left side so I wanted to correct that and make it more even.  In addition, in attempt to make her lower lip look fuller, I lower the bottom bow/valley area of the lip.  This client will return in a month for touch up appointment #2 where we will study the healed permanent makeup area and see where we want to refine, if at all.  During appointment #2, we will also have the opportunity to add depth and more color if the client desires this.   ~ Sovay Reeder, Aesthetician, Salon Sovay
