The Art of Permanent Cosmetics and Permanent Makeup with Licensed Aesthetician, Sovay Reeder ~ The Aesthetic Boutique at Salon Sovay

Permanent makeup should enhance your natural features, without giving a “made-up” look.Topical makeup trends change from season to season. However, having thick lashes and defined brows and lips will never go out of style. Therefore, permanent makeup is not meant to replace topical makeup. It gives you the advantage of looking natural, only better, even when not wearing conventional makeup.

The following client has extremely conservative taste.  She wanted to make sure we would enhance her eye beauty while making it looking extremely natural and almost undetectable to her family and friends.  This is a before and after shot after her first visit with me.  I'm going to visit with her up to 2 more times to ensure we can add more color and/or depth to her liner as she sees fit.  By applying a small amount of permanent color to her eyes, both bottom and top eyeliner, we can make certain she is comfortable with her permanent cosmetic enhancements every step of the way!  ~ Sovay Reeder, Aesthetician, Aesthetic Boutique at Salon Sovay

The Art of Permanent Cosmetics and Permanent Makeup with Licensed Aesthetician, Sovay Reeder

My goal is to enhance each client's natural beauty.  These three photos below demonstrate different phases of natural aesthetic enhancements utilizing color to better define the beauty of the eyes!  The first photo is her baseline photo and represents her eyes without any enhancement work...she is a blonde/red head and has very light hair, light eyebrows, beautiful blue eyes with a unique "teardrop" in her left pupil.  The second photo demonstrates the effectiveness of an eyebrow tint (blue/black color) and eyelash tint (8N with 3 Volume).  This helps add definition and framing to her gorgeous light features.  Photo three shows you how permanent cosmetics/makeup can perfectly enhance and outline her eyes.  We chose a "smudge" natural line to her bottom eyelid and a light but more defined line on her top eyelid.  This third photo was taken immediately after the cosmetic makeup procedure.  We expect up to 50% fading to occur within a month.  I'm scheduled to see her in 4 to 6 weeks for her second permanent cosmetic/makeup follow up procedure. At this time, we will study her remaining results (eyeliner top and bottom) and decide how to refine the work, if needed, to ensure absolute perfection and to exceed her expectations of me! ~ Sovay Reeder, Aesthetician, Aesthetic Boutique at Salon Sovay

Natural Permanent Cosmetic Applications in Austin Texas Permanent Makeup in Austin Texas. Cosmetic Tattoo in Austin Texas. Micropigmentation at The Aesthetic Boutique at Salon Sovay in Austin Texas

Here is an example of  natural looking pigment enhancement (or commonly referred to as permanent makeup) to my clients eyes.  I applied eyeliner to the upper eyelid only. We wanted to apply a very fine, natural liner.  The goal here is to make enhancements that would easily pass for beautiful eyes she was born with...without any help from the micropigmentation wand.  Incidentally, we also performed an eyelash perm and an eyelash tint to her eyes 1 week prior to this permanent makeup service so we "enhanced" the look of her eye optimally :)
At the Aesthetic Boutique at Salon Sovay, we use the Harmonix (Permanent Makeup) Digital Machine.  The needles hit the skin approximately 1800 times per minute, so you can complete procedures quickly.  This particular machine is manufactured in Germany and is top of the line.  ~ Sovay Reeder @ the Aesthetic Boutique and Salon Sovay

Here is an example of  natural looking pigment enhancement (or commonly referred to as permanent makeup) to my clients lips.  I included lip liner and lip filler.  While defining and filling with lip pigment, I wanted to make some enhancements to the shape, as well.  I thought it might be nice to sharpen the upper "bow" of the lips and lower the "dip" of the lower lip.  I wanted to give an overall look of fullness, healthy and natural color, and an enhanced, beautiful shape that will easily look like her natural genetic lips.  The goal here is to make enhancements that would easily pass for gorgeous lips she was born with...without any help from the micropigmentation wand.

Stylist Sovay creates Long Length Blunt Haircut with Long, Choppy Layers

This long length haircut features long, choppy layers to create body and add dimension.  My client is very specific about the exact type of layering technique she likes.  She will not allow me to "blend" them too much with connected and fine layers but, rather, likes to see all the blunt distinctions between the layers.   In addition, we do a partial highlight (lightener and hilift) and lowlight (8N/6G).  We do a fine weave for the lowlight making sure we do not put any of the lowlights around her immediate face and accentuate the highlights (tiny slices) around the face and neck line for her ponytail days.

We've been working together for a few years and we've made a few modifications in the color and cut but this is tonight's creation.

Extensions Labor:
Above you'll see a client I saw today, 12/12/12, whose appointment started at 5pm.  During her visit, I removed her previous extensions, washed and dried her hair ("before" photos), applied her new Hot Heads Extensions ("after" photos).  She left the salon ready for a night out on the town by 7:45pm.  It's important to note these are her first "Hot Heads" Extensions as she was experimenting with a different brand before she and I met.  I am not a big fan of the other brand nor was I a fan of the application style for numerous reasons.  First, the hair extensions consisted of a poor quality of hair that was not silky and dense but, rather, thin and sparse with a thicker tape band.  In addition, the hair also tended to "mat" up and the adhesive slipped after a couple of weeks of wear which resulted in losing a fair share of her genetic hair when reapplying these extensions.  It should be noted this client has very fine and thin hair and can not afford to experiment with bad hair extensions because it leaves her hair very vulnerable, impaired, and even more thin than her baseline genetic hair.  Luckily, she agreed to try Hot Head Extensions which I have had a great history of success with due to their superior hair quality, gentle application, and durability.  I expect these extensions to give her hair the length and shine she desires while being extremely gentle to her genetic hair...best of both worlds.  We used two different shades of blonde to match her natural hair while giving some color dimension, as well.

Extensions Maintenance:  She has an important function to attend in February so we have her next maintenance visit scheduled for the first week in February 2013.  These new sets of Hot Head Extensions should last approximately 9 + months with maintenance visits scheduled every 2 to 3 months.    ~Sovay Reeder @ Salon Sovay

Color Correction from Orange to Blonde with stylist Sovay @ Salon Sovay

Before Color Correction with a nice shade of Orange

After Color Correction with a nice shade of Blonde

This is a fun color correction with a client who was doing some experimental color art at home and the color turned a nice hue of orange.  This happens from time to time and, as stylist, we are used to seeing a variety of orange colors resulting from at home color experimentation.  I always encourage clients to paint away at home as long as they can handle the worst case scenario.  In this case, my client had a great attitude about her at home hair color but was ready for some professional color.  She showed me some pretty color shades on her personal pinterest page and they consisted of light blonde on top with shades of brown on the bottom.  This was very popular a few years ago (around 2006ish)and I was excited to revisit this look and create it for her...she had a beautiful face and, quite frankly, would look great with any color.  The "after" picture does not show the color very well but we added some dark brown color to her hair on the bottom layers...hard to see against the black cape but it's there:)  ~Sovay Reeder @ Salon Sovay

Salon Sovay stylist, Jenna Herrington, demonstrates an effortless "bob"

Jenna Herrington is no stranger to the bob haircut.  She's actually an expert at this style.  Here is just one more example of her incredible work and masterful "bob" on a client today.  In the left top corner is the "before" look and the other three photos are "after" pictures.  Jenna Herrington @ Salon Sovay

Platinum Blonde with Salon Sovay stylist/colorist, Sovay

My client is a natural dark blonde/light brown who desired an overall platinum blonde for her upcoming nuptials in February 2013.   We did a full highlight and lifted her hair to a beautiful butter/platinum blonde color.  We achieved this with thin slices spaced very close together on the entire head using slightly different shades of blonde.  I also spaced the slices extremely close together on the top portion of her head for a sun-kissed platinum look.  Right before we took her foil packets out to rinse her hair I added 40 Volume in between each foil for about 3 minutes for a slight "bump" of her base color to encourage the "natural" look of platinum and not so "bottled blonde"...we all want to look naturally gorgeous!  ~ Sovay Reeder @ Salon Sovay

Here is a client requesting Hot Heads hair extensions.  Our client had shoulder length thin blonde hair and desired additional length and thickness.  We looked over different color options and lengths and decided on Hot Heads 40 piece pack, 18-20 " length, Number 23.  Application time took about an hour and pictures were taken both before and after hair extensions.  Sovay Reeder @ Salon Sovay

Going from Blonde to Brown by stylist Sovay at Salon Sovay

I recently had one of my clients request brown hair...she was currently blonde.  I wasn't sure how I felt about this because blondes tend to be so fickle about this transition.  There is always that chance they will feel the brown color looks "mousy" or just plain "blah" and will soon request to go back to blonde.  I suggested we go to a nice honey brown while maintaining some pieces of her blonde highlights midshaft to ends allowing some sweet dimension to still come through.  I was hoping we could accomplish a really pretty color and make sure both of us felt great about it.  I have included the "after" shot which is her new honey brown color with some wispy blonde highlights peeking through.  I'm sorry I did not take the "before" shot but I simply forgot to do it...argh.  In addtion, I added some painted on pink sunglasses because it was late/she was tired and I promised I would hide her true identity with the shades...hope you like it!!   ~ Sovay Reeder @ Salon Sovay

Aesthetic Boutique at Salon Sovay Offering Natural Permanent Cosmetic Applications in Austin, Texas

Salon Sovay is pleased to announce permanent makeup as part of its expanding portfolio of services in Austin, Texas.  Sovay Reeder, Aesthetician and Stylist, just finished certification training with Helen Snow, Permanent Cosmetics Center of Scottsdale.   Helen recently flew to Austin and taught a week long training program with Sovay which involved daily training, application, and education.

The Aesthetic Boutique at Salon Sovay features an array of options for clients seeking (natural looking enhancement) permanent or semi-permanent makeup processes, from eyebrow and lip tint to eyelash perm and permanent eyeliner. Sovay will focus only on natural looking permanent makeup enhancements to the face.  A complimentary consultation can be made with Sovay to discuss visual aesthetic desires of the client as well as discussing all questions/answers prior to making an appointment.  This ensures expectations can be met and a service appointment can be made only after completing a complimentary consultation.

Recently, some of our clients got their first taste of these processes:

Eyebrows...minutes after procedure

Lip Liner and Lip Fill...minutes after procedure

Lip Liner and Lip Fill...minutes after procedure

It's important to note these pictures do not reflect the end appearance but I wanted to show pictures at every stage of the tattoo process.  I will do my best to post pictures of these three clients weeks later to show you how the end product will look.  The end result should show by about one month and can be up to 50% lighter and less prominent than the above "post-op" photos.  ~ Sovay Reeder, Aesthetician, The Aesthetic Boutique at Salon Sovay  (512) 519-9937

My client came prepared for her appointment with photos of different curly/wavy hair designs and looks that were attractive to her.  We also took the time to reference previous perm client pictures of mine in this blog to help determine which size rods to use.  We made an educated guess to use alternating white and purple rods throughout her entire head.  Her last perm was at 12 years old (which was a great experience for her) and she was ready for round 2 some years later.  She had a great attitude and assured me she would not fear going "too curly" and was ready for the adventure...a true sport and great client attitude!

Salon Sovay stylist, Sovay Reeder, attempts to cover the gray

Sovay Reeder's client has 80% gray hair.  She's not ready for the gray "natural" look but doesn't want it to look extremely obvious that she colors her hair either.  It's Sovay's job to turn the clock back a bit by adding natural shades of ash blonde and ash brown highlights and lowlights. This starts by coloring the clients overall base a level 8.5 to her gray new growth (translucent color line with 7 volume...half ash/neutral color).   Afterwards, Sovay takes finely woven sections and colors them in blonde and brown accents. This client wanted an extremely natural look so we used a tiny weave application technique.  The tinier your sections, the more natural it tends to look.
